The whole Intel:Mac thing.

Does anyone know much information about this thing? What i want to know is if you guys know if the windows based software will work under the main Mac Operating System?

Because is Mac considered superb based on its OS right? Or are people buying Macs due to its hardware?

I mean it's pretty crazy to have had a long list windows based software only to not work on a new investment, because no use buying 2 of the same software for individual OS.

The homebrew community is currently trying to make this work. They're saying it's more than possible.

OSX uses a derivative of unix as its engine called darwin, meaning it cannot natively run windows applications. I believe wine, a compatibility layer for windows applications, is being ported over to OSX, but it is still very much in beta phase and cannot run all windows applications. In short, OSX cannot run windows software.

These new Intel Macs uses a new binary system. Any software that run on the older Macs will run on the Intel Mac, But using some emulation software called Rosetta, However, Proformances on your older Mac software may not be as fast as they used to be on the regular Macs. There are some groups of people out there trying to figure a way to install Windows XP on there Intel Macs for dual booting purposes. Mac isn't really a system widely supported for gaming other then production softwares like for Photos, Videos and Music.

IBM/Intel uses CISC while Motorola/Freescale/IBM (IBM has its hands all over!) PowerPC (what is inside current Macs) use RISC. This makes their machine code totally incompatiable (as well as Mac software for their new computers running on Intel chips).

Not only that, These Intel MACS use some type of bios system, It's not your typical bios system that you find on many PCs, This is probably why people are trying to figure out how to install Windows XP on those system.

One thing you have to understand is that MACs are not for everybody, If your someone who likes playing PC games, a MAC isn't a good investment due to it's lack of support for gaming, MAC is made more towards those who are into producing stuff like Videos, Photos, And Music, Games is the least thing you find on the MACs. And you will never see some of the major PC games heading to the MAC.

Yeah because i'm planning to buy the Adobe Production Studio for Video, unfortunetly currently it's only for Windows but MAC version will come out. So yeh thats probably why i needed to know if the window version will ever be able to be played on the Mac in the future.

But i guess with some of the replies, it's pretty mixed. I just hope they work something around it.

Cheers for the replies, just gotta wait until it comes out i guess.

The problem is, Right now there is no software that will run on the MAC Intels other then the old software thats currently out, But there are not gonna run 100% due to the emulation provided by the software called Rosetta, Just stick with Windows. Intel is coming out with quad core CPUs for the PCs this year.

I got it installed on one of my Pentium 4's...it doesnt support many HDD formats though so i couldnt run it on my AMD since i use SATA. But its pretty nifty. The INTEL version of MAC OSX that is, works on intel platforms.
