Trance is just getting harder thats all.. when i listen to some of the older stuff its very mellow. these days there a faster stronger beat. more for dancing to. also old trance has a million layers of sound to it. i find these days trance doesnt usually have more then four or so, but interestingly the texture is still thick and crunchy. I never really listened to much older stuff tho cause ive only been converted in the last year. i predict it will become harder and darker this year.. cant wait!

You can find the sound you speak of today in yesterdays music as well. But I know what you are talking about. Seems like the trance djs then were dropping more melodic stuff as compared to the hard grinding beats today.
And yeah, 2005 was actually a nice year for trance so I can only imagine that its all uphill from here!

i agree with what you said about there only being a 4 sounds in a song. I go to listen to something and the simplicity and repetiveness of the song makes you just want to turn it off, but some songs can pull it off.

It really depends on the type of DJ that Im listening to. Sometimes Ill catch a set and it is rediculously fluffy and mellow making each track sound exactly like the last track without any surprises or change. Other times Ill hear a set that is so dark and hard that I end up with a headache in 30 minutes. So I dont think it's getting any harder or any mellow than any other year, just depends on who you listen to.

Ferry is great at mixing all the fluff and rough stuff together.
