Sit down my children and I will tell you how classics are made!!

a new tune: something you listen to NOW and a lot, people like it and DJs spin it.

and old tune: you loved it, stopped listening to it, DJs stopped spinning it, some random guy throws it into a set, you hear it and go, WOAH, that song was great, and start listening to it again.

HAving 100gig of Tunes i listen to "old" one's all the time... at the current rate of releases a tune becomes old several weeks after it's release, though quality comes before date therfore i will keep listening to it...

Mate, if you think 2001 was shit for trance, I think you need your head examined (no offence!)!

I suppose it depends on what kind of trance you are into... but the 2 tunes that did it for me big style last year were Mirco De Govia- Epic Monolith (Original mix) (Euphonic 18.3)and Nu-NRG- Dreamland (Vandit 12). And 2002 os looking set to be a cracker too...

lateRZ,

barryfigiel.

It's a good topic you brought here DumondeFan
I wanted to start a similar thread

Because that's really a shame that so many tracks "pass away (pass out?)" so quickly, and then it sounds like it is a shame to listen to old ones

It's like if DJs don't spin it anymore, it's not worth anymore, i find that to be really sad...

Even many TAs are only after the newest stuff (which is cool anyway) but i think they tend to forget too quickly about what they were dying for a few weeks before that

You see what i mean..?

I think cycles "new-->old" go way too fast in my opinion

What do you all think ?

New and old is more a mental thing for me.

I buy vinyl and put them in the bins next to my decks where I can easily flip through when playing. These are the "new" and "kinda new" records. As I acquire more records, I have to make room, so a few get put "on the shelf" where my entire collection is kept. There's no rhyme or reason how they migrate to the shelf. I've kept some in the bins for over two years... while some get shelved fairly soon.

Overall, "new" is what I'm listening to "now". "Kinda new" is probably within the last nine months, and "not so new" (I just can't say "old" unless its age is dated in years) is over nine months, but may not yet be shelved and played often enough. It's all in my head.

Finally, when I record a set, I usually throw in something good that's not necessarily "now".

I don't really know about "new-->old", but the way it works out for me is "new-to-me----->can't stand it anymore". This kinda makes more sense because i may hear a song 2day that is a year old, but it's still new to me. If it's good enough to stay in my playlist for a while, it eventually gets old even though it was old to begin with. (I hope that made sense).
