Help! Mixer cleaning question

my idiot friend was chainsmoking all night long. he kept his cigaretes away from my gear but managed to put the ashtray on top of the mixer rack. He then managed to knock it down, spilling ash all over the mixer. I have a Yamaha 01v96 v2 (very nice mixer) that was covered in fucking ash!

I used air can to blow the ash aside as much as I could and it looks clean but now I don't know if I need to try and open it up to vacuum inside it. I would really hate to have ash on the circuit boards or jacks - this crap would kill a mixer in no time. However, when not in use my mixer is uncovered anyway.

I wonder - should I open it to clean up inside (which would essentially create a huge job for me) or let it be?

I can't see any ash but I'm afraid that sliders could be covered in ash inside and if they have any grease on them - ash would just stick to it and greate a gooey mess.

Any suggestions?

Please help.

i have never opened a production mixer but i would sure look around and try to open it.

if you cant, then give it to someone who can and just blow some air.

If it's still under warranty, don't try to open it and clean it yourself - that'll void what warranty you have left.
It seems a waste, but take it to a qualified technician who can open it and clean it out for you.

If it's out of warranty, by all means go gung-ho. It's cheaper

so, I take it the general concensus is "open the sucker and clean it up", eh?
