how does 1 assign 2 or more channels to a group channel in cubase?

It's been a while since I used Cubase.
I think there's a menu at the top of each channel in the mixer where you can assign to groups/master bus.
By the way, simple things like this is usually covered in the manual.

Under each channel in Cubase (VST, 5.1 is what I have), there is a dropdown menu that shows MASTER setting in the default form. If you would like to assign a channel to a bus, just click on it and change the output from MASTER to any group (GRP) you'd like.
