I saw that right after I posted the thread but I couldn't delete it...
I was wondering if it got deleted because Jay continued to be so riduculously offensive. |
Offensive?
By having an opinion that is against the status quo?
sheesh
BTW all i even did in that thread was post an article about feminism from a well known columnist in a national paper. How is that "offensive"?

It absolutely IS offensive that you see international womens day as nothing more than an attention grabbing headline to promote women as victims.
Specifically, you said "What I've learned from international women's day is that there is certainly money to be made by playing the victim." |
And its true.
There is no denying it either. Everyone has a lot of money to be made by playing the role of the victim. Not just certain special interest groups but our society as a whole has learned to play this game. Why is it that any time someone wants to discuss the status quo its suddenly "offensive"? Perhaps if we were a little more brave to discuss these things we could find the path to true equality instead of the patchwork of equality conveniences that were described in that article.

Playing the victim? Women have been the victims in history. They have been abused, their rights have been taken away, they have been unfairly treated. They are STILL unfairly treated.
Bringing up issues is not exploiting the situation as you are suggesting. In my eyes, they are trying to fight for what they deserve, equality.
By fighting for equal wages (in a western culture) they are not 'trying to make money' off the situation, they are trying to get equal footing, an equal playing ground. By getting paid less for the same work, they are automatically disadvantaged.
In other cultures, there are more pressing issues than equal pay, and have nothing to do with 'making money'.
