This is a rather solid production. What equipment, you using, man?
You're looking at DI.fm? I'm not going to stop you, but I don't even know how that process works...
Arrangement of the buildup is not bad at all. The PLucked-Feedback lead is solid.
The highhats are sippy enough.
Nice swish-down effect with the melody. Good idea.
Breakdown is empty at the beginning and filled with some interesting effects at first. The bassline during the breakdown was perfect IMO... good cutoff and timbre.
After the breakdown - I wish the melody would be seperated from the tempest motif a little more... That aspect is the only muddy thing that comes to my attention upon the first listen. Dunno if EQ is in order or not.
I'm not so sure if the second breakdown was necessary... There wasn't a whole lot of new ideas introduced.
The melody worked... I like it -- this trance just didn't do a whole lot for me. It was a very well made production, however. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the input again.
Regarding the equipment, I use Nordrack3 and a JP8000. My computer does all the real time processing of the recorded tracks so there is not too much room left for softsynths, so I stay away from those for now.

I'm glad you've come a long way with your production skillz. I'm still trying to get all my softsynths and such in gear.
It's also cool to not have to rely on softsynths as much. I have one hardsynth... JP8080. I enjoy using it alot, and the sound is hard to beat. I almost bought a Nordrack 3 a while back, but someone beat me to it - I'm not kidding.
Not dissing software -- I actually prefer to use both.

| quote: | Effero,
- Really liking your intro. I like the rhythm of the bass line, and thos
- Break: is nice
- Main part: I can't quite put my finger on it, but I wish it sounded a little more differently than the rest of the track. I think maybe you need to turn down the High's on your drums. At least in the intro, so that in the main part, the treble is good loud so it sounds distinct from the intro.
Overall nice flowing track |
Thanks,
I noticed the same thing regarding the highs. I was just trying to set up my Dynaudios properly, and I did, but forgot that whatever I hear from now on is a true representation of the mix. Before the highs were overexaggerated, so if they seemed to be louder in a mix that was alright on other systems. Anyway, thanks for all the comments.

Thanks man, as mentioned, if you're willing to play a track for the public (club, party or an online radio program...) let me know and I'll send you a high qulity mp3 link.
Cheers

| quote: | Hey man, awesome track here! Can't judge the production in depth because of the bit-rate, but from what I can hear the mix is spot on.
The melody in this stands out as being excellent, if not unique (sorry - can't hear anything else but Castamara from the first three notes, which is unfortunate because the rest of the melody is obviously your own and does sound inspired). Especially though I love the way this is stripped down trance and the melody gets its rightful place as stand-out element. I'm forever layering my tunes to the max and ending up messy so I can definitely appreciate your tunes minimalism.
Just awesome! |
Thanks for the kind words....I have to say that the some inspiration came from different tracks, but you're right....the melody composition is original.
Of course, this is not my first track, and I made the same mistakes a lot of producers make when they layer sounds. Even though layering is something definitely beneficial to your tracks, you have to be very careful regarding number of elements present during any part of the track. Yes, some people will say, your breakdown seems kind of empty at the beggining, but this is something I was going for on purpose, meaning, start with relatively few instruments and build it up over the progression of the break.
My point is, that I did the same thing before as you and hundreds of other amateur producers on this forum. Layer and layer and layer some more without thinking on the number of elements present in a mix. I learned that if you want to have a mix that people can listen to, it's always good to have maximum 5 elements. Less is even better. This is not something I came up with, but a rule used by many enginners during mixdown. Foundation might be one of the elements and usually includes the whole drum section and a bass together. So, as long as your drums and a bass are playing together in a unique driving fashion, that is considered one element.
I hope this will help a little bit with your future projects.
The road to being a better producer is never ending and I'm just starting too.
Thanks again for the comments...I appreciate it
