This might be a nooby question which I am sure of, but are there any vst's or tutorials on how to make 8 bit Commodor64 sounds. Any tutorials for vst's such as vanguard ect? Any help is appreciated.

You can take a look at quadraSID. It's supposed to emulate the soundchip from the C64 if I'm not wrong. Try out the demo for yourself . http://www.refx.net/pro_quadrasid.htm
Check out all the instruments. There are a few in there that sound pretty NES.
I was just going to suggest Tweakbench Not only is it a great place to get some solid free VSTs, but "Peach," "Toad," and "Triforce" offer great video game sound emulations.

the hardware synth "Elektron Sidstation" uses the Sid chip from the commodore 64, there are sample cds avalable fo this synth.
it costs around $650 if you want the real deal.
i know the guy that designed the sid chip back in the 80s, he has told me that htere are people in europe who are loyal Sid / sidstation followers, who he told me worship him and nearly stalk him

buy a 64 and program it yourself....they are so cheap
You can also get a cart/prog called 'Little Sound DJ' or LSDJ or the gameboy which does pretty much what you desire.
remember that most of the stuff is very simplistic waves- often just pure square/noise or pulse

i just remembered that my brother still has his old commodore64 from his childhood days back in poland. hes coming to the u.s for a while, i think ill tell him to bring it with him for me.

doesnt it require special music studio software they came with? i jsut googled thigns about commodore 64 music, they have numerous plugins, how do you use a 3rd party plugin in a commodore64?

Cassette-tapes? The memories back then, waiting minutes to load a game from tape and if you accidentally touched some keys or the joystick all was screwed and you needed to start all over again .
READY[] and that nostalgic lightblue screen .
Anyway, just try out the vsti's mentioned earlier. Maybe they are more than sufficient for what you want to use them for.
