How Do You Automate Vanguard In FL Studio?

I am trying to use Vanguard in FL Studio but am having difficulty trying to automate the cutoff and resonance filters.

I am new to using external VSTs in Fruity, and need some pointers as to how its done. I'm use to right-clicking on the knob I wish to Automate in FL Studio's Generators and clicking 'Edit Events' to go to the automation screen.

Any help would be appreciated

Make a riff in pattern 1
Go to pattern 2...and play the riff in song mode.
Hit the record button and then when the metrodome stops ticking..play with the vanguards filters or w/e you want to do with it.

Thats how i automate some simple things like filtering..i hope that'll help you.

I like to do create automation clips instead. Go to your browser(press F8), Current Project, Generators, look for the vanguard you're talking about, go down to ENV->FLT 1/2 I believe. Right click and either do edit events or create automation clip. I like automation clips because it allows me to edit it throughout the whole song since I make 4/8/16 bar patterns for my leads, basslines and all that jazz. For Vanguard most of the time though, I'll put a Buzz Effect Adapter with the Filter 2 dll so it messes with the filter cutoff and resonance that way. Good luck pm me if you need any help.

Sort of like Logiks, Just move the filter you need. And go up to the right, you will see a little plug. Click on it, then go to Last Tweaked Parameter, then to Create Automation Track.

This is the same thing as DjLogik, but just encase you dont know the "ENV->FLT 1/2"

It also works if you tweak the desired knob, then click on the little plug icon in the top left of the screen, and go to Last Tweaked Parameter -> Create Automation Clip.

BAH. I am getting frustrated with helping people, and giving good suggestions and advice.

Then posting my own thread in which I ask for the same. And getting ZERO responses.

I am a bitter old man.

SO YEA. USE THE HELP FILE. AND SEARCH THE TUTORIALS.

edit: ps I jumped the gun

There is no right-click>edit events available as Vanguard doesn't have the interface that FL uses - but Create Automation Clip is available.

The lack of right-click threw me as I was unaware of the option in the 'plug'.

Thanks for the help guys - as for the carcastic response - thank you for your contribution. Hope your questions are answered too at some point!!

It happens

Automation is a tricky bitch until you get it though. Then it's easy.

Good luck m8.

You can just as easily 'edit events' with ANY VSTi (not DXi) as you can with a standard builtin FL Studio synth.

You don't actually need to go around making automation clips or recording things, it always feels to inaccurate to me.

What you can do is the following:

1) open your plugin interface in FL Studio

2) click the button on the top left of it

3) select 'browse parameters'
-> all available parameters from that synth will now pop up in your browser to the left.

4) look for the parameter you would like to automate (if you don't know, just slightly fiddle with it in your synth interface and the parameter will turn into bold in the parameter list in your browser).

5) right click on the parameter and select 'edit events'. You can now accurately edit the events of your parameter as you could easily do with standard FL synths.

alright now here is my question then...do you guys suggest using automation clips more often than edit events? or vice versa? I mean I normally create 4,8,16 bar patterns so automation clips seem to work well for me. If automation clips hog up more cpu than edit events does though then I'd rather use edit events. Who has some answers for us all?
