Last time I upgraded my comp was for hl2, bought a 9800 pro 128 mb, and now I'm thinking I'll have to upgrade again so I can play oblivion properly. My laptop just hits slightly above the minimum specs, and can most likely play it, though not well probably. Anyway, I've got a budget limit of a little over $200, is there a good hdr card out right now that is around that price?

i dont think they make those card anymore or couldbe wrong. gget teh. best thing to get is the 7600gt/gs, best bang for buck currenty now. ati just need a good update card at this price

im in the same dilemma, i've looked a few AGP cards and they are equal in price as pci-e and i know everything will go pci-e soon so i'm not sure if i should just redo the box and go pci-e or find an equal AGP card and pay the same amount of money...crap!

I'm doing the same thing... and I don't particularly feel like changing my entire system... SO... I'm looking at purchasing the 7800GS. It's basically the 6800Ultra for AGP. It runs about 449 at Future Shop.

I just found this which should help you guys too...

While it's safe to say that the best AGP card available for over $200 is the recently released 7800 GS, it it very difficult to recommend at $280.
The 16-pipeline 7800 GS isn't even in the same league as the similarly priced 7900 GT and X1800 XT, which can only be found in PCI-express, but for less than $300. The 7800 GS is solidly in the same performance league, and has basically the same features as, the out-of-production 6800 Ultra.

With this in mind, if you have $300 to spend on an AGP card, you are much better off getting a PCI-express video card as well as a PCI-express motherboard for a few dollars more.
There are Intel Socket 478 and AMD Socket 740/939 PCI-express motherboards out there for those who wish to upgrade their current platform but keep their CPU and memory.

The only real contemporary dead-end as far as upgrading motherboards is the AMD Socket A cpu, which has no PCI-express motherboard available... but even then it's worth a hard look at upgrading to a PCI-express system.

i think im gonna upgrade to a socket 939 change my chipset keep my internals and add an average pci-e video card since my MCE runs on a 40" sony hdtv lcd and i get some really decent image quality when i play avi's, mpeg4, and other media on that machine. The only reason why I'll half step my video card is because my TV only takes VGA and not DVI (wish it took DVI though) but VGA handles properly as the sony tv formats the signal really really well.
