Ive been trying to find a post on this or ,even better yet in a muisc theory book, but was unable to come up with a solution.

my questions is basicaly you have a main riff ,now if this is your question (the main riff) what would a good way to answer it?

and do you have to answer the main riff?

i think the question is quite clear: it is about tension -relief.
say you play a riff (answer or part a) and then you have a second riff (part b) to kinda answer part a. a relationship between to parts in a track. can't put it any better, sorry, and can't give an appropriate answer how to do it. maybe follow some chord progression?

I don't necessarily think you have to answer the main melody. My understanding of this question and answer stuff is that it relates more to small musical phrases - one instrument plays something (the question), then another instrument plays the same thing (the answer).

The last place I remember reading about this subject was in Computer Music mag, so perhaps purchase a copy of that.

I suggest having the hook be in the same key as the main riff, but maybe a few steps below or above the main riff with a different rhythmic pattern. That allows for more variation in the track, yet it still gives the same feel and you're not really diverging from the original idea of the track. You could also try changing the key when using the hook and then transposing your main riff to that key. Just stry whatever sounds interesting. I've found that becoming really musical is better. Whether it be dynamics or whatever.
