Talking Heliocentric: a melodic psytrance mix

01 :: Vatos Locos - Innovato [Dragonfly]
02 :: Matenda - Force Majeure [Flow]
03 :: Cosma - People on Hold [Hom-mega]
04 :: S>Range - Microchip 23 [Spirit Zone]
05 :: BLT & Danny Makov - News [Iboga]
06 :: Chromosome - Borderlines [Y.S.E.]
07 :: Ace Ventura - Cardiac Arrest (Zen Mechanics Remix) [Iboga]
08 :: FREq - Cosmic Nature [Z.M.A.]
09 :: Natural Flow - Flying Toasters [Groove Zone]
10 :: Jaļa - From Tokyo [Digital Structures]
11 :: Magnetrixx - Syntex [AP]
12 :: Silver Surfers - Mudjaji (Protoculture Remix) [Nano]
13 :: Psypilot - Full Om [Turbo Trance]
14 :: Orion - Groove Control [Solstice]
15 :: Mr. Peculiar - Crystal Energy [Sonic Dragon]
16 :: Blue Planet Corporation - Alidade (Wizzy Noise Remix) [Candyflip]

This is the sound of summer: sixteen upbeat tracks smoothly mixed into a journey that softly builds from thoughtful grooves towards an energetic peak. The introduction is purposefully sedate, though Cosma's song rapidly catalyzes the emotive power of the developing storyline. The mix keeps on pumping steadily until Jaļa's From Tokyo, when a funky tribal twist alters the trajectory and sends the mix spiralling up into the full-on morning trance style of Psypilot and Mr. Peculiar. The last track is a winning remix of an old classic which is sure to leave one with a lingering sense of residual warmth and satisfaction.

Heliocentric is my second shot at a harmonic mix, blending melodies in complimentary keys for the majority of the transitions between tracks. This allows me to mix for longer periods of time, enriching the flow with a greater degree of musicality. Enjoy!

melodic psytrance... krazy how peple apply the subgenres of progressive trance to Psy these days. As far as I know you have goa, and you have psy... that is as far as it goes. Otherwise you might as well just start calling Epic Trance Psy...
I just want to know how Psy Trance can be seperated into different genres, what elements does each contain that make them significantly different?

By most standards, this mix is a fusion of progressive/full-on... but I think that's a sort of pointless way of considering music. The theme is melody, so I call it melodic - not as a away of fabricating a non-existant subgenre, but merely to describe the mix to a greater degree. I could have called this 'morning trance' but I think that would be a bit confusing given the context

On the subject of subgenres and movements I will soon post an article on the subject to my web site which should be a good starting point to understanding the various trends in psytrance throughout its history

Estella, the easy way to snag this mix is to download µTorrent, install, and then download the .torrent file (which should then automatically open and ask you where you would like to download the mix). Further instructions and help can be found on my web site (here for example).

Epic, Melodic Psy Trance... sorry but for whatever reason it just sounds stupid to me. But I'll give it a listen and let you know what i think.

What's stupid about that? Psytrance can't be epic or melodic in your view?

Thanks for the comments that were sent over to my site

Thanks for introducing me to something different, Basilisk. I really liked I believe the 5th? track, with the choral "OHHHHHHH ohhhhhhhh" sounds in the background. I also enjoyed the synopsis in your original post of your mix. That's what intrigued me to want to listen. Transitions were smooth and the flow was warm. However, this music just isn't for me. Much thanks for sharing!
