You all need to see Cash Cab.

It also helps that the questions are comparatively easy. "Cash Cab" will never be mistaken for "Jeopardy!"
The questions here are more like the ones on "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" or old shows such as "Tic Tac Dough," which once featured my all-time favorite, easy quiz-show question: "Fill in the blank — it's a popular entertainment duo: '[blank]' and Cher"!
What happens on "Cash Cab" is this: A cabbie picks up unsuspecting passengers (usually in pairs) around Manhattan and when they announce their destination, bells go off and lights flash.
The driver then turns around and announces they are riding in the "Cash Cab" and can now win money if they can answer his questions.
The driver/host is a comedian named Ben Bailey, who explains that the contestants will win their money only if they can avoid getting three wrong. If that happens, out they go, wherever they are.
Forty episodes of "Cash Cab" were filmed in the city in early fall. Back-to-back episodes premiered on Discovery Channel Dec. 5, weekdays at 6 p.m.
In an episode airing tomorrow, two women out for an afternoon's shopping will win $425 if they can identify the blond actress who wrote the books "Star" and "Star Struck." (The answer is Pam Anderson.)
Another pair of contestants, a young couple, gets booted when they fail to answer a Shakespeare question whose correct (and obvious) response is "Romeo and Juliet."
And a pair of men will answer questions on such subjects as Wendy's chili, Benedict Arnold and Trent Lott on their way to winning $1,200.
One other good thing about stepping into a cab with Bob Bailey at the wheel: He seems to know where he's going, which is more than you can say for some cab drivers. |
