Trance influence on Vid-Game music...
I'll admit, this topic is far-fetched, but could create an interesting discussion:
4-on-4 beats seem to be a strong staple in many video games. Trancey feelings are sometimes present too. True, Sonic the Hedgehog was (back in the days that I played it) more acid-jazz, and Mega Man was more on the electro-electro-rock side. But... I've played alot of shmups (shoot-em-ups), scrolling arcade games, and R-Type clones that have a strong EDM influence in them on the trancy side.
I've forgotten alot of names of these games and scenes, but still, it makes me wonder. Trance has really carved a small, unappreciated nitche of sorts in the video game community. I mean, the coolest thing I can imagine is a fusion of high-enegy trance tunes, and a smart, high-paced R-Type/Gradius/Pulstar clone. Am I the only one who thinks that way?
Heck, I was playing a ROM (yeah, I know) of Last Resort at a friend's house a few months ago. Last Resort was another R-Type rip-off, but DAMN! The 4-on-flour kick with a driving bassline almost gave me flashbacks of "Lange - Drifting Away" for some insane reason.
Anyone care to share similar experiences, or video-games with a strong trance influence?
