Trance influence on Vid-Game music...

I'll admit, this topic is far-fetched, but could create an interesting discussion:

4-on-4 beats seem to be a strong staple in many video games. Trancey feelings are sometimes present too. True, Sonic the Hedgehog was (back in the days that I played it) more acid-jazz, and Mega Man was more on the electro-electro-rock side. But... I've played alot of shmups (shoot-em-ups), scrolling arcade games, and R-Type clones that have a strong EDM influence in them on the trancy side.

I've forgotten alot of names of these games and scenes, but still, it makes me wonder. Trance has really carved a small, unappreciated nitche of sorts in the video game community. I mean, the coolest thing I can imagine is a fusion of high-enegy trance tunes, and a smart, high-paced R-Type/Gradius/Pulstar clone. Am I the only one who thinks that way?

Heck, I was playing a ROM (yeah, I know) of Last Resort at a friend's house a few months ago. Last Resort was another R-Type rip-off, but DAMN! The 4-on-flour kick with a driving bassline almost gave me flashbacks of "Lange - Drifting Away" for some insane reason.

Anyone care to share similar experiences, or video-games with a strong trance influence?

Yeah... I wasn't born in a cave (close, but no). Sadly, I haven't played any of the games past the NES era.

No one... just that I have heard of the "old vampire game" Castlevania.

I suppose I'm not big on gothic-stuff... I never really got into Vampires and such (not my tastes), but I did play the NES game Castlevania a long while back (but not too long ago).

I used to play the original Unreal Tournament and it did have some "Trance" per se on it. A TA member and former member of the community I was part of, even had a cd with all the music in the car

Yeah that soundtrack was awesome but you really have to hear the soundtrack to the original game "Unreal", the single player one. It has the most amazing soundtrack. Before I was big into trance, I was big into that game, and it got to the point where I was looking around for music similar, and lo and behold I found trance. But some of it was melodic-ambient music too, but it was top notch stuff. I think it had one of the best soundtracks in a computer or video game, next to the Zelda series...

The Megaman games all have amazing soundtracks, if you haven't heard 'em you gotta check 'em out.
My personal favorites are Megaman 2, Megaman 3 and Megaman X but I really love 'em all.

See, this is where I can go berzerk, 'cause gaming OWNS and I've been doing it since I was a sperm.
I'd like to point out that some of the songs in Sonic 3 were produced by Michael Jackson, as in, they ripped off his songs (They might've worked with him though lol, otherwise he can sue their asses down to hell, yeah you get the pic).
Castlevania has awesome music too, and the two best songs I can think of is the first song in Castlevania 4 (Super Famicom/Nintendo) and Vampire Killer from... whatever.
NES has its own sound and you know it, so I'll point out some cool stuff that is really spacey and stuff.

Metroid series (Owns hard) (Check for Kraids Hideout, awesome song)
Streetgangs (aka Rivercity Ransom)
And this game... I know the name of it, I had it, and I think it's quite underground, but I don't want to tell you guys. IT'S MY GAME! STAY AWAY FROM IT! GOLLUM! GOLLUM!
