Mono Vs. Stereo

So... Here we go another dumb question. I wanted to clarify that i am not an idiot for asking questions or this certain question..

I am trying to experiment or get some tips regarding using Stereo or Mono on certain sounds...

Ive read somewhere that the Kick should be in Mono in certain instances i guess. Now my question is it smart to put certain sounds Mono vs stereo. Should i wait to bounce(render) track to Stereo. Is it better or is just preference. I just want some feedback from some of you guys.. I am not asking for " The Answer " or "The Right Way" just input and ideas..

Thanks for the Help!.
