Thumbs down Whatever happened to Chris Sheppard?

Has this guy totally sold out???
I remember (back in the day; pull up a chair by the fireplace) when this guy used to be THE guy.
Totally cool, total underground.
This last few (abiate, more that a few) years this guy has totally lost it.
Since his Pirate Radio Synidate went National I can't listen to it.
I mean...check this out...
On his OWN website he has Nelly - #1 has his number 3 song on his top 30.
W T F?
Check it for yourself...

This guy pretty much put Toronto underground/club music on the map (my opinion). Try and name another Toronto icon that people world-wide would recognize? (Other than our beloved Dr.Trance of couse; plug! plug!! )

I have some of his early CD compelations (good grief...who doesn't?) and I can honestly say I don't like his newer comps AT ALL...

Anyways..... /rant

Yes.......chris sheppard has sold out.......what a shame.....he USED to be one of the better underground deejays. But remember he has many aliases tho........his radio show....he plays everything (so i'm told) then as dogwhistle sound system.......he plays underground stuff. Remember he is growing older now and he at least got rid of the mickey mouse hair.....which was awful. Who knows!

I can think of alot of people who had a BIG impact on the scene from the beginning that didn't sell out and some of whom are still around.

Mark Oliver - the man has done a SHIT load of work and is still up top!
Dr. No - is kickin around somewhere.
Alx of London - Came out of retirement a little while ago (but I think it was for only once)
OS2 & Eryk S - Been around for quite some time and are still busy and quite well known.

True, true....forgot to mention Oliver and OS2.
What about DJ Flipside?

Also I do still retain respect for him because of what he accomplished back then BUT at least he knows where he stands Such as this quote from his site:

"I never underestimate the intelligence of the audience. I manage to walk the fine line between giving the people what they want and shameless pandering to trends of the moment. I also take pride in leading them into new pastures."

hey, i was at a halloween party and some guy voluntarily dressed up like chris sheppard /shudder

i may not like chris sheppard but i think he is a man who works very hard for his money. maybe not in the same way as tiesto, pvd or armin, but he still works hard (in my opinion). it takes a lot of work to sell out and still be succesful as he is. some people like having their music spoon fed to them and i'm sure it's just as hard as it is to make mass appealing music as it is to make good music

there always be two sides of the coin and i don't think sheppard tries to be one and pass himself off as the other (he may have changed but he know exactly who he is)

Points out that sheppard's pocketbook is probably not complaining, anyways love him or hate him........he will be an essential figure that helped really push the toronto music scene in the early days in the early 90's

Yup

I don't think he tries to act like underground...he knows he has gone mainstream as the others have said.

I never liked him even in the underground days, but he's got the commercial aspect locked down.
