I have two responses to that:
a) You ARE somebody. The difference between famous DJs and beginner DJs is how much work, passion and time they put into their craft. There is no other distinction there -- famous DJs play by the same laws as regular folks.
b) If you bought the CD or MP3 legitimately, you can use it in your sets. I wouldn't advise you to mix from a DJ CD (because it has already been heavily processed/mastered for that mix), but you can technically do it if you want to.
There is no law that says "You can't mix songs that aren't in the club yet"
Take care.

by saying nobody, i meant just a local dj. i said that so to mean that the song wasnt given to u earlier by the artist for u to play.
how about a set that u downloaded online? like lets say asot or tatw or whatever set by someone who uploads the mix on this page.

That would be illegal as you have not paid for it. Some of the producers in the Music Productions area will give you permission to play THEIR productions even if you don't pay for it, however ripping a song out of an ASOT or any other radio show for that matter, to play out, would be deemed illegal.

No it's not illegal and is not dependent on fame to play unreleased stuff. It's called a PROMO (not for sale)! You receive them in the mail and via the wisdom of the turntables you are in essence promoting their single.

Are we talking about an unreleased track thats on a compilation cd, an unreleased track in an online radio show (i.e. asot), or a promo given to you by the producer?
and which of those are legal to play in a club?

ok let me restate me question
forget about quality. lets say any set you download online is 100% clear.
now would it be legal for me or any other dj to play a song from that mix compilation (it could be a weekly radio show or any mix) that is unreleased? i havent paid for the mix but its out there for the public.

It is illegal to play something out in a club if you have obtained it without either paying for it or getting the artist's permission. It doesn't matter if it's an ASOT set, a set PVD spun at Cream, or even a single MP3.
Unless you obtained it legally, you cannot play it out. |
I thought I made this statement earlier regarding live sets???
O/P read!

^^thanks
i got your message earlier, but just wanted a second opinion. it never hurts. and some people were getting confused and getting out of subject.
how about if i purchase a mix compilation like lets say ISOS? lets say i bought the CD and play a song off of the CD in the club. is that now considered legal?
now lets say that the song i played off of ISOS is out for purchase online and on vinyl/CD single. now would playing the song off of ISOS still be considered?
and how about if the song i played is an unreleased track?
