I have received comments a while back, that I should start including more smilies in my posts.

Do they make a difference to you?

My view is, if you don't know what a person means, don't assume anything. You cannot read into things on the net, smilies or no smilies. A lot of the times, comments are directed only at certain people, who know what the meaning is.

I think they are important at times.

I tend to be very sarcastic, and it doesnt translate properly over text.

A smilie can totally help the reader know what I really mean.

Smiles are contagious!!

I think they make a big difference. Because you are right this is the net and some people could take it the wrong way when you are tying to make a joke. thats if you care about every one elses opinion...

I think a lot of people will post something to be taken within a certain context, and with a certain meaning. These emotions do not readily translate into text, and as such, maybe smilies make a difference.

I think that sometimes they do make a difference. Everyone knows how hard it is to sense the tone of voice on the internet. So people who are very sarcastic in their comments or say things that COULD be taken in a bad way, I think that adding a little smily would help people to know they're not being completely serious.
