Territory Restrictions - Beatport?

Oh my word - I'm really disappointed.

I tried to buy Dogzilla - Without You

and Beatport advised me that:

One or more of the items you've selected for purchase are unavailable in your territory:

Tracks:
Without You - Dogzilla Dub

What the hells going on? I mean region locking on DvDs I can understand, but this is a bit silly.

Whats to stop me from getting one of you US guys to buy it for me? And me buying a track for you and swapping them?

Any info on this would be handy. As a result of being unable to buy this I've now gone and got hold of a 320kbps illegal version - I didn't want to but I had no other option!

In answer to your question what is going on, territories are set up between the different organisations that maintain copywrite and royalty systems etc. When an artist signs a deal, the contract will contain an agreement for what the contrat covers in terms of what level of ownership, et al, the label has over the release. If an artist signs to 'all territories' then you will have no restriction to your purchase. If the initial contract only pertains to a certian territory, then you would need to be in that territory to make your purchase.

Though this is an irritation for the consumer, it can be beneficial to the artist interms of a range of things -eg maintaining copywrite (something you should always do).

Hope this clarifies a bit for you.

What quality is it?
I dont mind I-tunes for some commercial stuff.
Only problem is you may need programs such as tunebit to rip the audio wich sucks.

i think the quality is 128kbps??? someone correct me please, but either way itunes doesnt offer the selections offered on audiojelly or beatport and they dont give you .wav format which is preferable for a lot of djs (including myself).
