Designing your own table

I'm wondering if any of you designed your own table for your TTs, mixer, etc. I've heard of people that draw out all the plans and then give it to a company or something to build. Anyone have any experience with this?

ive been through that experience, i made my own deck stand, wood cost me around $45 only, so i saved more than $200 instead of buying a new one. click on the link to see wut it looks.

nice and simple, I like.

Mine turned out to be a bit more complex but its one sturdy mofo thats for sure. I also had to design it around a large stereo and keep in mind ease of movement (cos its impossible to get big stuff into the room where it is)

i'll edit with links for pics when I get home from work.

If you have a look at the bedroom setup thread you'll find loads of home made tables.

yup 1st time, took me alot of work tho with calculations so i can get everything right and then cut them in exact sizes, then had my brother to give me a hand with it and it took me around 2 hours to set it up.

If you are making your own, a word of advice.

When it comes to cutting the sides/top etc to size (ie. the sheets of wood) get the shop where you buy it from to cut it to size for you. Theycan do it quicker and easier and with less chance of a major mistake than you, usually for a minimal fee. The advantage is if they cut all the (for example) sides at once, if there is a small error in the measurement theywill all be like that, so it will all still fit together perfectly.

Or if you do cut it yourself, measure twice cut once.

true, thats why i spent soo much time with calculations so i can have it all done right, but also usually a shop would cut it for free if you buy the wood from them.

Chck out Baltic Birch Plywood - thinner layers & stronger & less weight than regular plywood & MDF particle board. Important if you want to move the table often.
