Its a good story and all, but don't you think the media coverage of this is a bit overkill? I'm not just talking about the rescue but the 2 weeks as a whole.
Is two guys stuck down a hole really worth continuous news coverage, extended newsbreaks every 15 minutes and every jorno and his dog?
I mean, c'mon ACA, surely theres a dodgy builder making our kids fat while ripping off welfare somewhere to chase with a camera?
Obviously yeah cover it, and it is important news, but i think maybe its being overdone. |
Reporters have created hundreds of new ways to say 'theres nothing new to report'. Mediawatch last night had a bit to say about the overcoverage.
Channel 9 is certainly milking it now, theres been Live coverage since i got home, havent seen this much Live coverage since September 11.
I think last night there was a reporter explaining what was gonna happen when they get out "this gate will ah.. swing open, the gate behind me, it has been closed for the better part of 14 days, and the miners will walk out from behind this gate..."
Next few days will be the media scrum trying to buy rights to the story.
Maybe its a slow year for the media
