is your neighbour being a *******?

I havent been able to play records at all anymore, my neighbour keeps knocking at my door for me to put the voice down, and shes bein a total bitch about it, does anyone have the same problem? now i dont wanna built a soundproof wall since im moving out in 3 months, but does anyone have any tips that could help me out for this summer, is there anything that you can stick on the wall which will atleast just make the sound thats going thru lower (which i assume there isnt), and i cant move the setup to another room, the only space for it is where it is now. hmmm or should i keep playing loud music and make her move out :P

Buy some monitors, turn the volume down, mix with your headphones more, but ultimately if you don't want to mix with just your headphones buy some monitors like KRK RP5s or RP8s....I had that problem when I had PAs, they had to be turned up much louder and with my new monitors (KRK RP8s) I don't need to turn them up quite as loud, and when I do, the sound doesn't travel or reverberate like it did with my Yamaha PAs I had...

Egh do you have PAs or Monitors? Cause I was assuming you had PAs because those usually have more problems with sound traveling, reverberation...high decibels/volume...

i have the exact same problem .. i live in a university hostel.. so yeah.. i get alot of complains.. when i mix i dun even turn my volume up that loud .. then my neighbour knocks on my door.. complains to reception .. then once a cop even came up to my room.. by hell i didn't care.. the more they complain = making me more pissed off = me blasting my music more ..
once the ass even had the guts to knock one my door and complained even though i wasn't mixing on that day and i was actually sleeping .. guess she is used to blaming all the noise on floor at me .. im also moving out soon .. so rite now .. im being considerate .. u know leave on a good note... and mixing more with my headphones than my cheap and crap monitors..

i know how u feel man.. sound will travel.. no matter if u get PA systems or monitors.. they will still travel but not so much if u get monitors.. in my case.. getting monitors won't be any use.. coz the rooms are right next to each other.. and the walls seem to be hollow.

I have never had it... I am suprised by this though considering I live in a terrace house... One good part is my next door neighbours to one side have a pissweak band... So I assume we have an unspoken agreement that we can both have it as loud as we want.

Speaking as someone who is slightly older than the average TA I can say that I see it this way.

If you are constantly disrupting someone elses life even though they asked you to take them into consideration then you are being a jerk off.
In a university dorm, people are going through a process that will shape the rest of their lives and need peace around them to put in their time to get the best result.

Mix through your headphones if you have to, it's not going to be forever. When I'm not in a club I like to do it this way as I find it the easiest method to get fully absorbed in the music and picture how it will work when I play it out.

On the other hand, some people get really anal about noise and use any opportunity to make a mountain out of a mole hill. They are jerk offs too...

You have had the sense and motivation to ask and research ways in which you can help improve your own situation as well as those around you. That makes you a good human being.

Cheers
Nem

yeah, id just go visit your neighbour and see if there are particular times you both can agree on when you can practice. i did this (haha, well they came to see me) and i just had to make sure i was finished by the time their kids went to bed. easy.

I live in an appartment house and I sometimes listen music pretty loud, my neighbours haven't said anything though... I usually start putting the volume down at 9 or 10.

Some old neighbours, who have moved out already, played music pretty damn loud sometimes. I could hear the music very well here in my room. It was fun for a while but when it lasted longer, it started to suck. Especially when they listened bad music (IMO) all the time :|
