never used final scratch, i am a proud owner of ssl, and it rocks, hard!! its reliable and built like a tank, get ssl, you wont be dissapointed. by the way, to save you a bit of time, i went on recommendations from TA, the majority of people on here say ssl, but thats my opinion.

if you get ssl, you wont be dissapointed, amazing product, changed my perspective about digital music.

thanks

so it took me 5 seconds to search for Serato Scratch in the DJ booth in the last year.

Haven't looked to see if these are any good but going by the thread titles......
http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...rato+scratch%22
http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...rato+scratch%22

look, theres even one FS vs SSL
http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...rato+scratch%22

same again
http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...rato+scratch%22

a review of SSL from 2004
http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...rato+scratch%22

an apparent anti-FS thread
http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...rato+scratch%22

search isn't that hard. All of those took me less than 5 mins to pull. Read them all, they probably are all worth reading.

ps, if I was to buy one (which I am thinking about) I'd buy SSL.

i have ssl and my partner has final scratch... i know ssl is better and more reliable, but final scratch does have more bells and whistles than ssl (keeping songs in key when you change the pitch is one i can think of off hand)... ssl is coming out w/ that feature soon but it will cost like 50 bucks...

overall i think ssl is better. great customer support, free updates for life, and it's made by RANE

get ssl if you know what's good for ya

I have both on 3 decks so I will give you an unbiased viewpoint.

-It's up to you to deside which one you will buy.

Don't let any sponsored psedocelebrity influence your decition.
IT'S YOUR MONEY!

But here are some things you should consider:

-Serato is more stable then final scratch on most real world laptops.
If you have a real fast desktop computer it won't matter.

-With traktor 3 you can do far more with the music.
Loop it. Extend it. Edit it. Cut the beat. Make your own dj tools....
Mark your cuepoints, call them up e.c.t

-With the scratch amp you can asign all the contols to midi buttons or knobs and do shit even the most advanced cd deck is not capable off.
Far more creative!

-You can also record your set using the rca inputs from the third input.

-However as strange as it may sound the serato has better digital to analog converters.
While being 16 bit in the wordlenth it sounds a bit better than the scratch amp to me.
Same files same monitors. More clarity in the midrange.

-However fs2 can playback a ripped record @ 24 bit 96k lashing out extreme clarity
if you have a proper analog to digital converter.

-If you never intend to playback anything higher than redbook audio I think the serato will sound better.
-Especially the midrange. Vocals for example sound better with the serato.
Less harsh too with mp3 files.

-In a club I don't think it will matter as it will not be your wickest link.

-The scratch amp can function as a computer soundcard while the serato can only function as an interface.

-The serato feels more like a real record while I think the fs record is a little bit more accurate and easier to handle.

-The serato has higher latency when cuing a record. I think the lowest posible setting is 7 ms. With fs2 you can go down to 1.3 ms. (it's firewire)
-With tractor you can go down to 4 ms.
So you really don't feel a lag when cuing the beat and dropping it.

-However with serato once you drop the needle on the groove it responds instantly unlike fs which takes a fraction of a second.

-The scratch amp has a second firewire port which is cool because you can hook a 250 lacie harddrive directly to the interface without having a second firewire port on your
laptop. Very very fucking handy feature.

-Another imporant feature is the synch feature of traktor.
When you are so fucking drunk you can barelly stand up yet alone dj...
When your head is spinning faster than the record and the tracks are just melting in your head while your vision is blurry and you couldn't hear the music if you tried to...
call up your special ''I'am wasted playlist'' with your warped tracks and beat grids, cue it up ,let go and let the software save you from djing like Tommy lee!

Nobody should have to suffer because you where not responsible enough to stay sober...

If I had to have one I would pick fs2 .
My own personal preference.
At least for mixing, not scratching.
It offers far more and the software is far more powerful.
It has been widely used for mix cds (transport series) Early prog compilations ect where they synch the tracks with traktor and then throw the mix into protools.
