Shooting on my Street
Just days after a series of police raids netted dozens of suspected gun-toting gang members based in the northwest part of the city, shots rang out on the other side of town, narrowly missing two young children.
A bullet ripped into a home in the Sheppard and McCowan area on Friday night just before 7:30pm where a six-year-old girl and her four-year-old sister were in the living room watching television.
Police say the gunshot shattered the front window of the home on Hallbank Terrace, sending glass onto the six-year-old. She suffered minor cuts to her forehead, but wasn’t taken to hospital.
Apparently just before the shooting, kids were lighting fireworks in the area and as a result cops were having trouble getting help from area residents, who became confused by the noisy barrage and couldn’t differentiate the sounds.
Two men were seen fleeing the area after more than 10 shots were fired, police said.
This is the second time in a week that bullets have tore through an innocent family's home.
On Wednesday, shotgun pellets ripped through an apartment on Falstaff Avenue, in the Jane and Wilson area, narrowly missing a baby in its crib.
