[Uplifting/Melodic Trance] Barry Kane - Emotion

Been working on this one for a while now. thanks to Nik for the bassline as if it wasnt for him i would still be stuck.

This is my favourite style and definately my best to date. It's five minutes or so long. still working on an outro.

Hope you like it as i enjoyed making this one.

Hey Barry

First off, I like the kick in the track. From listening, it seems to have more direction than previous tracks you have done, which is great.
I like the melody played by the bells, and when the pads come in it starts to sound very cool.
Perhaps the lead synth is a bit vanguardy sounding.
When the main part of the track plays, you need a stronger bassline and percs to drive the track. The bassline seemed to disappear after the beginning of the track.

Overall I think this is your best yet man, you're improving quickly.
keep her lit!

Dont like that clap/snare...too much top end on it. Liek the kick - perhaps a little more depth aded to it?. Dont like the hat, needs a big open hat i feel for this track to give it mor energy. Nice synth/bass synth that first comes in. Nice melody that comes in, simple and effective. Lovely strings/pads. Some nice FXs. Nice riff that comes in on the break - works really well - but EQ that drum roll - sorry but that sounds awful - choose a different drum roll - the top end ont hat hurst my ears.

Overall there seems to be a tad too much top end, try EQ-ing some of the sounds on the top end mate. Its a really good simple effective track. Very chille dout for me and i like it. Well done, keep up the good work.

Proggy vibe to it that I love. Chilled floor mover that isn't going to destroy the club, but it's memorable.

THe bells are excellent. THe kick is good, but the clap sounds rather cheap. The bassline buildup is good, and I like how it changed once from the beginning soundwise.

The effects are meaningful and sound inspired.

The breakdown has some nice sounds to it, but the gated saw sounds too dry, and I'm not sure I like a whole lot. I'd say you should increase it's reverb, and distance a tad, or enhance the stereo on it some.

The snare roll needs alot of work.

The main part and outro of the track wasn't very fulfilling. Maybe if the gated saw picked up some thickness, layered with another synth -- and you worked on the bassline to make it sound more epic. THe bassline does need some additional layer to give it more oomph, and the remainder of the track could have used that extra energy.

Otherwise, this is indeed your best track to date. You're improving fast, mate. Good job.

hey barry, i was wondering what your next track will sound like.

this has definitely more drive than your last productions and its the best i heard by you so far.

nice kick, i think you used a similiar one in your last track.

percussions are ok, nice basic arrangement, i like the open hat. maybe a bit more variation in the whole percussion area.

the clap sounds a bit thin imo. i would layer a low-key snare drum to it.

the bassline should be louder imo.

the little bell sequence thats running to your tune sounds a bit cheesy to me. i think it would sound better if you just shorten it to one bar (like at 1.08), give it a very long high-passed delay, and intersperse it every now and then.

the pads in the break, as far as i can hear they sound pretty good but definitely need to be louder.

melody is the best i heard by you. its pretty harmonic and quite classic sounding, good work on that.

would be cool to here the bass variate after the break. like the lower key of your pad sound.

in the whole track your drums volume is a bit dominating the track, i would increase the volume of the whole synth section.

i think now its enough of being picky,

alltogether a big advance to your last tune, good work

No long intro's for you eh?

You just go right into the percs and stuff. Not too shabby so far. It sounds a little muffled and thin, but that's probably the 128kbps mp3 talking.

Are your kicks and bass supposed to be so un-present? Your bass isn't making much bass and neither is your kick really.

It's getting a bit repetative 01:31 --- oh there we go, bongos anyone?

A little break. What an odd melody. Not much foreplay, we just go right into something else.

02:10 Waiting for something to really move me. WOW! wtf kick too hard @ 02:41

That's not a great contrast, we're talking weak bass/kick then all of the sudden a hugely dynamic kick crash!

Break down is dragging a bit... Ok it's sounding a little better now 03:29

03:52 That snare build made my ears go "ow" think of changing the sample

Overall:

It needs a lot of work. Which I'm sure you're aware of. Your bass is either not doing enough, or nearly non-existant. The kick isn't really doing much work either. And the 128mp3 really makes it hard for me to get a good idea of what's going on in the high-frequency range other than the fact that your dynamics are a little wild.

I think it might have potential. But in all honesty I'd drop it. And start a new track and focus on mixing your low-end a lot better.

Keep up the work though, never give up.

---Adam

Cheers everyone for the comments.

its a first draft so theres bound to be problems. most of the percussion problems are being addressed. i had to rush it so thats why it sounds so fucked up at the minute. needed a base for the vocalist to work from.

@soundrush - cheers mate. the pointers always help. the percussion section has been dropped totally and changed so the track will be slightly different once everything is added.

@djfreaq - appreciate the honesty but im not giving up on this. i havent had time to work on it so the sounds are quite muffled. had to boost alot of frequencies when mixing it down to even the spread. the final version wont sound like it this.

once again cheers everyone

Good! Glad to hear it. Keep working on it then. Let me know when you get some more work done on it!

Don't take anything I say personally, you've got talent, and I will like to hear the finished product.

Keep it up
