time is relative to change. so in other words time is just another word for change. i took a class on this.... it was kinda of a waste because then they said it was just a theory and there is 100's of them..

i was like @ the end of the semester.

that's also the 2nd topic i'm writin about- whether we are able to manipulate time. i say yes, to a certain extent and it usually has to do with ice lol. did you see alias yesterday? i never watched a show in my life and that show is like, KEY in my paper as of now lol. the guy slowed down the ticker on a bomb by using liquid nitro. he slowed down time!

phenomenologically, time is an arbitrary construct humans have been manipulating for thousands of years. calendars, stopwatches, and sundials are methods of manipulating something that doesn't exist beyond our own understanding. we ascribe time-based values to natural processes which lead us to think of time as a juggernaut.

right, and in this sense, time is more of a socio-economic structure with which to keep order of and systematize society.

"doesn't exist beyond our own understanding" so are you staying time is man-made and doesn't exist outside our heads and clocks?

we've created, named, systematized, and categorized it: beyond us it's vapors. if i decide to create a 6-month calendar with 60-day months, have i tapped into some new time continuum?

modern timekeeping is a byproduct of the industrial revolution.

i agree with you on everything except where you said we created it... what would you call things or rather, how do you measure events/occurrences like the evolution of the cosmos, the evolution of man if time does not exist? just, change? but the change is a progression over a certain period, with which we must measure with time?

edit: the french invented a new System of timing in the 1800s (or 1700s? sorry, but mah head asplode atm) but that didn't invent a new time continuum.. it was always there, they just compartmentalized it a different way..

i think the chemical reaction would slow down as the molecules slow down with the cooling of temperature, time though is not slowed down.
...

its a tricky subject.. and most of the answers poeple can come up with.. there is another angle to it.... its a vicious circle of death if u will. haha good luck on ur paper.
