I am doing a study on the philosophy of feminism, and I am wondering, in general, what do people think when they think of a feminist? Do you think it is a good thing; a bad thing? Do you think it plays a role in our society today? Do you think popular feminism is broken? Anything you have to say on the subject is welcome, and I would like to hear from both men and women.

I will give my own opinions later.

Why is it bad?

I think it's a good idea that some have pushed too far and too fast. Society's been structured to be patriarchal thousands of years ago. Things can't be expected to change in 50 years. While some progress has been made, some of the movement has lost what might've been it's initial goal and changed from gender equality to female superiority, sexism and double standards.

feminist movment is bad, as it tries to say that women are equal as man.

when they clearly arent. now now.. im not saying women cant do jobs man can do....


well i kinda am because it is in nature that we are different. men clearly are stronger phisically and are good @ math problems i think... because that part of our brain is more developed, and women are better @ abstract thinking.


i cant rly remember other differences but i learn this in college. there were a ton putting down the ideal of "women are = to man " because clearly they arent



ps. sounds like im putting women down but women have as much positive qualities as men. those are the only examples i can think of.

Popular feminism is broken in the same way that gay activism is broken...these groups, women and gays, remain marginalized to a significant extent, yet have attained enough "equality" and protection under the law (here, anyway) to satisfy/placate most of them. IMHO, this is especially true in urban centres, where their voice is probably loudest due to shear numbers...leaving those is smaller, more rural areas without the same "actual" protections and equality to fend for themselves, given the lack of forward thinking that often exists in these areas.

"abstract thinking" would probably be under the holistic hemisphere, so I'm thinking you meant "specific thinking". In any case, this stuff is based on how hormones affect brain growth. I'd like to see some research data that shows the practical implications of this - if any exists. Gender roles are learned from society, they're not hard-wired into the brain from birth.

im not saying gender roles.. im saying things u are naturally good @. well i guess there is a fine line but maybe what u are enclined on learning?..ya i guess that is also walking the thin line... there is some reasearch.. i think i sold my books cause i passed the class.
