Music Based Games, Rez/Frequency/Bust a Groove

Who else out there has played some music/rhythm based games? Rez is quite good. For a little description, it's like a music-shooter where you play this character floating through cyber-space and shoot down various targets while trance accompanies the action. It's like a cross of Space-Harrier and Panzer Dragoon. Quite good, but....

Frequency is twice the game that is! Who else has played this? What other music based games do people like?

I've never played Rez but I would love to give it a shot. It's always good when people develop games with a bit originality and imagination than usual...

i have both rez and frequency. they are both pretty dope and are must haves for all music game lovers. rez is a little short, and frequency is a game that you would want to play over and over. but every ps2 owner should be playing ffx.

I've played frequency. Lots of fun but they need more songs.

I thought the exact same thing at first. The trouble is, you have to get really good at the game (which I'm not....yet.... ) in order to to unlock all of the stages. After you've been able to unlock all of the stages setting the proper scores, there's 25 songs in all. That's not too shabby.

I've heard this is quite good for the PS! I've seen people play it in the arcades on the full side dance pads. You actually look pretty cool if you are good enough to accurately bust off the dance moves, don't you think?

One other game that everyone has to try.... Samba De Amigo! It's a music/rhythm game for the Dreamcast. The deal is that you have these maracas... no I'm not kidding! Two red maracas and an infrared sensor on the floor that connects to the dance pad that you stand on. What happens is that you have 3 sets of circles on the screen that look like this.

0 0
0 0
0 0

An outline appears around each of these circles depending on how high or low you are holding each maraca. Hold them at waist level and the outline will appear around the middle circles. Left maraca high and the right one low and they'll be on the upper-left and lower-right circles. Got it? Good.
What happens next is that the game plays music. South american, latin, or mexican music is the main theme, but there are also remixes of songs like La Bamba and Take on Me as well as the Austin Powers Theme song. This may sound cheesy, but TRUST ME, it's a complete riot and actually serves to enhance the experience. While the music plays, bubbles from the center of the circles where X = the center

0 0
0 X 0
0 0

flow into the circles in various patterns to the beat of the music! It's your job to use that red maraca in each of your sweaty little palms to hit those beats! That's the game at its base. Shake those maracas to the beat. It's just as entertaining to watch as it is to play. I'm telling all of you, this is a euphoria that must be experinced! I've seen this game take over parties before (not spin parties per se, but I wouldn't doubt it) and you just have to try it. You'll be happy you did.
