Taking care of a wild duckling?

Hey guys,

I found a Mallard duckling just outside my house this afternoon. There's some pretty heavy machinery around as we just moved to a new place and earlier the people working had found a bunch of ducklings and put them in a box waiting for the mother to get them.

Well it turns out they didn't grab all of them. The mother came to get all her ducklings but this one wasn't found until now. The mother is nowhere to be seen so I took this one home while waiting for the machinery to stop, at which point i will go looking for her and return the little guy.

In the meantime i was wondering if anyone had experience with ducklings, specifically wild ones. I don't know what to do/not do to him to make sure he stays in good health while he's here.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Well, even if u do find the mother she will not take him back b/c i dont think they like human touching their baby's or does that only work on birds?? i've had one wild duckling for three days until he fell off my bed and died... so i dont know if u want to take my advice but i would recommend feeding him wet bread. The only way they will eat is with a *pippette* a little glass tube with a rubber end that you squeeze to push the liqued into a baby's mouth. If he doesnt eat make sure you atleast give him some water immediatly or else he will die quickly. Good luck.

awwww loca! lol thats so sweet of you to be taking care of that thing! <3 I have rescued animals like that all my life. the last one was a kitten in the winter...someone threw it in a ditch on the coldest night...it was soo sick, and lost part of it's tail and ear .

For a duckling, everything depends on how old it is. make sure it has a box to stay in, and it needs to be nice and warm. Give it lots of water. They have to eat a certain type of food so i suggest that you ask a veterinarian about that...or go to a livestock supply store. They also like veggies and stuff lol. uugh i wish i could be of more help, but i haven't had a duckling in like 7 years! haha

good luck with everything!
