question about itunes

i've got a new computer for college and i want to transfer all my mp3's to the new hard drive. however, my whole collection is in itunes. if i start out with an original mp3 file, and put it in itunes, does it do anything to the quality? i know you can change the quality on the rip cd setting, but putting a mp3 from like beatport straight into itunes, does itunes mess with the file at all? i'd like to just copy my itunes folder and transfer it, but i dont know if i should dig up all the originals or not. thanks in advance

Re: question about itunes

I've heard it adds a slight air of arrogance to all your tracks.

The only things iTunes might change are the id3 tags. You have to realize that even if iTunes did, for some reason, want to modify the audio data of your mp3s, it would have to decode them, modify them, then reencode them, which would not only add lots of unwanted artifacts but would also be very time-consuming. So, no. Your music is safe, I promise
