MONSTER Cables: Worth the fuss?

Hey ladies and gents,

Didnt know where else to post this, but knowing theres a few audio/video -holics in here I hope you can be of some help

Whats the deal with the MONSTER cables you see in BestBuys, CircutCity's, FutureShops ect. ect. My family just recently got a 72" Toshiba and we ended up bying one of the monster power bar components. It is supposed to apparently clean out all "niose" and interference that runs through your electrical lines, eliminating distotion and whatnot from your audio/video system.

The sales rep recomended to go with them for all audio/video connections for the maxium performance and least loss of integrity.

I'm just wondering if it truley justified the $129 pricetag. And does it really matter and make a difference if you putting all this extra cash to buy "gold plated" cables to "improve" your audio/video home theatre?

Fortuantely I still have time to return them, just pondering whether or not its really worth it.

Here's a link to thier site.

short answer no.

Cheap cables Vs Decent quality cables = Large difference
Decent quality cables Vs monster cables = very limited difference for a huge price difference

You should be able to pick up very good cables for the 1/4 of the monster price

Personally I use www.hosatech.com most of their stuff is Gold plated or nickle.. you can pick.. sturdier than the average electronic store or department store cables... and most of them are between $10-20.

Monster cables are terrible, and the company is about as unethical as they come. They sue everyone that uses the name "Monster" and have put many small businesses under by doing so(and also taken large settlements from big corporations for (Monsters Inc, Monster Energy drink,...)). They are the typical greedy corporation that will step on anyone for money.
They have incredible marketing and I am amazed at how many people pay alot of money for poorly made cables. They have nice packaging and all the people that work at audio stores talk it up cause they mark it up 3-400%. You can get better quality cables at radio shack!

Monster cables are pretty good as they go. Are they much better in terms of fidelity than a well made, no name balanced cable run? well, no not really.

But the best thing about monster cable has always been the sheath they are made of. It holds its shape. Therefore you can have loads of them and not get them tangled, or you can bend them around and over surfaces - to keep them up against walls for instance. If you have a few patchbays and are running serious amounts of cable, monster stuff is pretty good for project studio use. They are extremely expensive though, and I dont really consider the price worth it. But if I had loads more disposible income I would probably use them.

I love Penny Arcade. Their Star Wars Galaxies stint was classy and so very depressingly true :*)

Seriously. Hosa. That's all you need to know as far as cables go.
Not only do they have GREAT quality cables for the price. They have a variety of quality levels.

Like Analogue said: www.hosatech.com

PS: I sold MonsterCable at radioshack. They're horseshit products. Over priced for a minimal increase in quality over no-namer cables.

Thanks everyone,

I'll definately be returning them. But as far a medium quality cables, I'll check Radio Shack. Most people have told me they got everything for their hometheater/audio system there and not to bother with this whole Monster cable business. Seems like thats the genereal sentiment over here on TA

And yeah It's our first real HDTV so we kinda splurgerd with the Toshiba, but thats about as far as our splurging is going to go for hmmm, lets say about 1 1/2 years

I did all my research, EXCEPT cables. For us, we will probably never notice the difference and I'd have to say Lesson learned: Dont fall for over-marketed overpriced cables!
