DJM 600 question

A buddy of mine is selling is setup, which includes his DJM 600. He offered to sell it to me at 600 which comes with a flight case. He claims that the market price for a DJM600 is still at 700-800 USD, and eBay prices go for 580-670 USD.
After reading some threads regarding mixer comparisions, the DJM 600 doesn't seemed to looked upon too well. For one, it seems that Pioneer released the 800 in SPITE of the 600 from the reviews that I heard...better build and sound quality, in my books, trumphs over any effects processor or fancy extraneous luxuries anyday, and seems to be the two major improvements over the 600. Then again, the 800 is digital, so that could be a factor as well.
Second, I don't know why people think the 600 has bad sound quality...again, the guy who is selling it is running the mixer through a QSC amp and Yorkville monitors, and it sounds fine to me. Moreover, I don't need a stadium-sized sound system for where I live and what I do at home. At the most, me and my friend will be spinning for college parties that play mainstream hiphop, but I realy don't think I'll be needing my mixer for anything else other than mixing at home.

Question is, is it worth it to be on a monthly payment plan(I don't want to shell out the entire 6 bills at once...got other stuff to pay for as well!) so I can upgrade from my shitty $150 Stanton 2 channel
to a DJM 600?
BTW, the mixer has been sitting for a good 6 months with no maintenance or use...heeavy dust between the faders. I might have to open the face plate to REALLy clean the entire thing, unless someone else has a better suggestion for cleaning.

Thanks.

Depending on the usage and quality that the mixer is in, $600 + flight case is a pretty nice price.

DJM-600 is also the industry standard in clubs (unless clubs have the DJM-800 or Xone 62/92) so it is hardly a bad mixer.

Edit: just noticed you said you'd be playing hip-hop. Not much reason to have a full 4 channel mixer + effects (though not the best effects) for hip hop. Might as well stick to a trusty 2 channel that can be beat around.

No, I primarily use it to spin at home for leisure, practice, and recording...so a multichannel mixer is ideal, although not required.
What is all this talk about the 600's build compromising it's sound quality?

it doesn't sound as good as its competitors. Thats all.

And as for "Pioneer released the 800 is SPITE of the 600", well the 800 is the superseding model, its a shit idea to release a new model worse than the old one isn't it , so obviously the 800 will be better.

If you think it sounds fine, why are you so worried about its sound? If you are happy, isn't that all that matters? Its the very same reason people like different headphones, its what they like and are comfortable with.

What is considered cheap? I did some price hunting, and the price that my friend is trying to sell it for is 600 w/ flight case, so it hits about the mean of the prices I've looked at.
I'm not worried, per se, about the mixer itself. I'm just wondering if I could use that cash to buy a different one instead.
Thanks!
