What's your scene like?

Here I am...one guy on his computer listening to trance, looking at party pics, reading reviews and then wondering....What is your scene REALLY like? One of the great thing about this board is the fact that there are so many people from so many places (look at all the flags).

To me, looking at all these pictures from these huge massives (15,000 peeps+), especially those in Europe seem pretty unfathomable considering where I'm from. And to all those TA's in Europe (England and Netherlands), what's it like having all those big time trance dj's in your own backyard? The only Canadian dj that I can think of the has any international appeal is Max Graham, but you guys have got so many.......WHAT IS IT LIKE OVER THERE?

PS To all the TA's in the US...you already know what I'm going to ask

I am always in awe of the huge parties/raves/box socials/schindigs. I can't even imagine what Innercity or Dancevalley is like! Here in Chicago we have a club scene, but it sucks if you are under 21.

Well... in the land of oz, i dont think trance is that huge, not in my city anyways... the big genre over here is drum and bass, thats what you'll find most of the smaller events here are based on. The large events however - Gatecrasher, MOS.. which are trance/club based, always pull pretty big crowds, but alotta the time you'll find people go just because it is a big event, not for the music itself.

We had 12000+ for gatecrasher summer sound system a few months ago, but its a fair bet that at least half the people there didnt even venture into the gatecrasher arena for the trance

as far as the club scene is concerned, most of the clubs play commercial crap.. theres only two (to my knowledge) that play half quality trance/house on a saturday night

so there ya go... if u want trance, dont come to perth

Toronto has a HUGE SCENE and it's still growing. First of all, we have a huge house scene besides trance with nick holder, hatiras and others. We have a huge eurodance scene (dunno why) and we have a huge drum'n'bass scene. Back to trance, we draw the Big Names often and they seem to love it here. In a 3 period in sept-oct, we drew Gielen, Corsten, Tiesto, PVD, Dave Seaman and Armin with Orkidea. So i have to say that we are doing quite well. Besides that, we have two clubs (back to back) the guvernment/the koolhaus that really bring most of the big names in. Same complex, same management and trance is really taking off in toronto and Canada for that matter. FYI, mistress barbara essential mix-jan 27th/02.

I am very very happy to live in switzerland. The swiss scene is huge, even though we don't have as many good producers as Germany, but we seem to unique every Trance Country in Europe. Here around a lot of stuff is being played, no matter where it's from. We got loads of great djs, and there is enough stuff they can play. I can say nothing bad about it. And it's still not as commercial as in Germany nowadays.

You think you have it bad....

Trance here is awful as a scene. I live in a college town in Madison, Wisconsin (half of you probably have never even heard of the state). There's one shop in town to buy trance vinyl, and I'd have to say the selection is limited at best. The only known DJs that have ever been here are Dave Ralph and *cough* DJ Skribble (who was actually pretty decent) who me and some friends arranged to come to our fraternity for parties. It's just fairly difficult to bring any sort of 'new' thing to the middle of a farm state. At least some of us are trying, though, and that's why I am glad Chicago is only a 2 hour drive.

Enjoy what you have, for it certainly is not to be had here.
