Thanks for the compliment!
I don't get it though...are you making fun? How dare you! hehe
To each his own...if you lived here you would probably be really excited about this, there is actually a story behind this night:
The club we're doing it in is underneath a scuzzy strip bar in one of the worst areas of downtown. It is where Winnipeg's rave scene was born. For five years every thursday night we would walk through an unmarked side door on Albert St and down a set of stairs where the stairwell was painted black and dripping with condensation so that it looked like if you touched the walls you would get covered in oil or tar, into this little dingy basement club with two rooms and a capacity of about 200.
The lights consisted mostly of plain black lights and then whatever little mini-laser/disco ball setup we could dig up for the night. The bathrooms were so dirty they painted everything in them black so that you couldn't see the dirt...which suited the kids just fine because it made it easier to see the line they were cutting up on the back of the toilet haha
The owners of the club had no other weekly nights except for Saturdays, which was a goth industrial night. And as it was such a seedy place they gave us free will with what to do with it. One of the promoters who took care of it during it's 2nd to last year painted spacey anime murals on the wall, and before that we had done all sorts of things like bring in a bunch of couches. It was great fun.
Every Thursday whether I worked or not, I would be there for as much of the night as I could...and I wasn't the only one, for a lot of us this was a tradition we looked forward to every week. At 11pm precisely the club would completely empty as everyone headed upstairs to the seedy strip joint to watch some skanky stripper who didn't even know how to dance take her clothes off. She was a good sport though. If we threw change at her she would throw it back. If we made her "props" she would take them and simulate sex haha God I miss those nights.
The Thursday night passed through the hands of some of Winnipeg's most influential djs and eventually it was laid to rest 2 years ago when the attendance finally dwindled to a group of die-hards who had been going for so long that they weren't even paying admission anymore and the promoters couldn't keep the night going.
So Symptom Technologies is holding this one-off. It's going to be a sort of reunion in a way...and to top it off it is on a Thursday, just like the good old days! This is about being with friends and nostalgisizing...not about seeing some high-priced out of town dj. And the "sissy battle" that Zan and CHorse are doing is actually a rematch of a 1999 battle where the looser (Zan) had to go in drag. This time though, they are both dressing up in frilly alice in wonderland type dresses haha Should be a blast!
If you were from around here you'd probably be there too. I'm really looking forward to it
And to QuickStep:
Thanks for the input and thanks for signing the book!
