rotate hot and cold each hour for the first 24...if swelling does not improve go to the doctor. If you have no med insurance, cut off your arm.

oooooookkkkkkkkk....too much of a good thing is a bad thing. but seriously, ice will start burning dude. leave it off for now. if the injury isn't too serious, i'd leave it off.

i read online that its not good to rotate warm and cold the first 3 days. thats why i kinda got curious if too much ice is a bad thing.

When using ice, be careful not to apply it directly to the skin. This can cause "ice burns" and further skin damage. Wrapping the ice in a damp towel generally provides the best protection for the skin.
The most common recommendation is to apply ice for 20 minutes every 2 hours for the first 48 to 72 hours.

I have to laugh.
I read a part of the title "Pulled Muscle"
Read who wrote it... (skipped the Pat) and saw McGroin. Ah what a slow day at work for me.

note to self... do not try to give thy self the stranger at work.. end note.
you should use both ice and like a heating bad or something. The ice will dull the pain and help with swelling but the heat will help relax the muscle.

you should find out what's wrong with it before ice & heat. sometimes that's not good for it depending on what's wrong with it.
i'm actually going through excrutiating shoulder pain lately...to the point where i can't even lift my arm and i'm in constant pain it really sucks. i had an MRI yesterday and that was one of the most unpleasant experiences of my life. it was 40 min. long and my shoulder was strapped to my side causing the worst throbbing pain down my whole arm and i wasn't allowed to move the entire time. my arm started having involuntary muscle twitches, it was weird. not to mention the really loud (so loud that they have to put ear covers on your ears) alarm-like noises the whole time too.
anyway, u sure you just pulled the muscle? that would be your deltoid i think? if you're sure that's all it is, then i think heat is best. gets blood flowing and stuff...
