Progressive Fundamentals: The Trance Experience

This mix took me a while to conceive, but alas it is here. I have sampled through Beatport’s entire 80+ pages of progressive trance section (yeah I was bored) and found several tunes that stroke a chord in me personally. Obviously not all of them are featured here, but the tracks that did make it into my mix are what I consider to be beautiful examples of the progressive trance sound. At the end of the set you’ll notice an equalizing error. I am aware of the slight excess of bass in the last transition and couldn't help it. Other than that, I hope you enjoy this mix as much as I did and as usual feedback is welcome.

Tracklist
1) Split Second - Midnight Express
2) Lost Edit - Emptiness
3) Portishead - Roads (Sultan & Tonedepth Remix)
4) Vincent K - Kriti
5) Azior - Deep and Inside
6) Double V - Setting Sun
7) Kalafut & Fygle - Novocaine (Mark Otten Remix)
8) Chicane - Saltwater
9) James Holden - One For You (Oliver Klein Remix)
10)Allure - The Love We Lost
11)Jam & Spoon - Odyssey To Anyoona

wow... i think i got what you wanted to achieve...
first two tracks didn't turn me on, but for me, Roads was the opener... great melody, subtle remix, typical tonedepth. Kriti is also amazing and I like it more and more.
Following tracks are also well selected, one can feel you spend some time collecting tunes for this specific theme, which I will talk over later. Novocaine always reminds me Chicane and I can see, that you've also found this similarity. 9th and 10th track are a bit dirty and I have nothing against that.

What I noticed and it is obvious, that many of these tracks contain some kind of mystic vocal (which personally I like very much - see my Oriental Impact compilation ). Saltwater featuring Marie Brennan is the key point. The Loves We Lost had to be on this set. I would demand it. Also Kriti and Odyssey to Anyoona bear me out.
As i started this post... I think you achieved what you wanted to. It ematates through the entire mix. Good job, mate!

I'm glad you enjoyed it and thanks for listening. By the way I'm still rating other mixes so be patient for my little review to your mix.

Damn you didn't even like the first one? I love that first track because it made for a great opener. I won't stress it though; to each of their own!

I did that on purpose. Build ftw.

Hmmm, it sounds like you admire my previous progresssive effort better. I don't blame you tastes vary.

Thanks for your detailed analysis!

Really a beautiful set from you Stevieboy! Very nice work with the track selection and build. I'd say this set has some of the best programming as far as track selection and over all constistent feeling. The first track was very well chosen. Gives you an idea of what's to come. It is very chill and soft but captures your attention. The next couple tracks were nice and consistent and had a purpose but I think they may have been a little to uninteresting to the listener. Roads is such a beautiful tune but I think that somehow it's power didn't come across at this point. I can't put my finger on it though. Anyway the song after was a very nice choice. It was lacking a little in the excitement category but it matched Roads so well that it was enjoyable. After this point the mix get's much better. Beautiful melodies with a consistent uphoric, chill and elegant vibe.

The main draw back I had was the first 30 mins was a bit too chill and has a hard time capturing the attention of the listener. You have some beautiful tunes lined up there but I think you need to through in a couple tracks that contrasted and compelled the vibe forward. This is good though as usually my main complain is that a mix doesn't have a consistent feel or doesn't have an overall effect. This mix may be too consistent and could have used some variety.

Anyway hope that helps. Very suprising that I would say one of your set's is too chill as I believe that you've knocked me for that in the past.

wow, nice set! I love the songs, and the mixing too, especially in the first 40min..! -That part of the set is just so beautiful.. But the rest of the set is also really good..! The only thing I didn't like that much, was the transition from novocaine to saltwater.. It isn't bad, but.. It sounds like the transition is a bit out of tune.. the pitch in the two songs doesn't match each other.. (I'm not sure if I'm using the correct words/expressions here, but I hope you understand what I mean..)
But except for that, I really liked your set and I will definitely listen to it agian..!
