does anyone else hate this?

when you are booked to dj but notice the organiser is doing next to no advertising....

plus the venue is great but not associated with trance. so without any promotion the night wont be a sucess.

plus you have very kindly been given a prime slot but know the other dj's will not warm up properly.

i know the guy on first will play more upbeat and techy trance, the guy on second will lower the tempo and play classics and well known trax like ferry corsten - fire.. and then ill come on in the last hour and a half and have to start from scratch, building the crowd up cos the guys before didnt do it right.

every night i seam to do under this promoter is the same. its like they are stuck in 99!! they think the people going to clubs now are the same as in 99.

its so annoying!

If you see lack of promotion on the organizers part, then I say do it yourself if you are that worried about it. I know when that day comes for me, I'll be promoting no matter what!

fact is i know what promoting is like in my town. there are about four big promoters of d+b that battle for all the custom... so any posters i have put up in the past needed replacing after half an hour!! plus i am doing a favour djing for free to help build the scene in the area. im leaving soon thank god. there is a dire lack of good trance dj's /nights here. the least the guy can do is ensure the dj's have the audience they deserve, especially as theyare doing it for free for him.

I can see how everything can be annoying except the opening DJ part. A good DJ is always able to build upon whatever the previous DJ did for them without having to worry about a thing.

YOU CAN DO IT!!!! DON'T LET THE LITTLE THINGS GET ON YOUR WAY!!!!

Soon, you'll learn to not let them bother you. I know I have.

Good luck!

hmmm. you mixed techno into a house set. thats fine most people who can mix, can mix into anything but mixing techno which is around 140+ bpm into house which is at the 130 mark is going to sound really shit. who goes to listen to techno at 130 bpm?

Techno isn't always 140bpm. There's slower techno, which you can build from.

fact is that people in the uk these days expect a tougher style of trance/techno as the night progresses. they love some prog to chill to at the beginning. to get the feet tapping. the fact is that the crowd will be fed a load of harder stuff at the start cos the first guy cant warm up, then the guy in the middle will lower the drive just when people wanna start dancing, then they will either be bored or put off by the time i get on. so ill need to warm them up fresh.. im sorry, i can fit into a roster wether its a warm up set or peak time set but a night just doesnt work when the middle dj cant drive a crowd. the dj present at the most crucial point when people wanna dance.

Start with some tech-house and build that into some straight techno.
