Dunno Good Enough?

Hey guys,
I was thinking about getting a macbook with 1.83 ghz processing and 2gb of ram. My plan is to run Reason 3.0 with cubase SE as its host via Rewire. Using Cubase so that i can incorporate VST's and maybe hardware synths in the future (at the most 3). Would these laptop specs be able to handle all of this? Im sure the Ram would do but im just not quite sure about the 1.83 processing speed.
~thanks in advance.

1.83ghz intel core duo should do the job nicely

Consider getting Cubase SL instead of SE. It has instrument freeze which is very useful.

Just to throw my 2cents in... I have the 1.83Ghz macbook with 1gig of RAM, and I've been running Reason and Ableton and it's quite zippy!

Don't know about you guys but i'm using AMD Athlon MP 2400+ (2Ghz) and 512 DDR with Reason 3.0 and i'm getting 100% CPU load often.

Add some more RAM, what the heck are you doing? 60 effects units and 20 synths? Less is more

i agree. The RAM determines how much you can actually have going on at once. example, 1 gb of RAM allows you to have more VST's or applications going on at once than a 512 mb. The processing speed pretty much is just the processing speed. a 2 ghz may be faster than a 1.83 as far as loading stuff up and such but all in all, the ram is for what i explained and the processing is just for processing.

I think it's the cpu cuz the hole project doesen't need more than 100-120 MB of RAM to work (u can see that in the task manager). You can also see the cpu going up to 90-100% both in reason indicator and windows task manager.

@ Ryan, actulay that's about the amount of devices i'm using when getting a project near finish.

You need more ram so it doesn’t have to keep loading from a temp folder on your hard drive all the time making your computer sluggish.
The more ram you have the better your pc will run as it can store information straight to memory instead of loading from a temp folder.
The CPU load won’t be as bad and you will be able to achieve better results. Some vsts are really CPU hungry, but with extra ram you will notice a big difference.
Try investing in some performance memory that has a lower cass latency value than cheaper value memory.
A lot of cheap memory has a cass latency value of 3 and performance memory has cass latency 2.5 to 2.
Also try and invest in sata hard drives as they are 100% better than standard ide drives.

thank you for the advices...i'll probably switch to a socket 939 platform later and add a better memory too.
