Rebirth or the Mc 505

Hey guys i know both of these are discontinued and ive had rebirth for a while now and both were made around the same time 97

so does the mc 505 sound any better than rebirth a lot of people are still raving about this box like it was the next best thing to sliced bread(and the one stop and only box for all of edm)

id just like to know anyone here that does have it is it better than Rebirth.

cause you could create a 303 in a synth without the 505
but if its worth buying id like to know.

What is it with people comparing 2 products that are completely different? Rebirth is emulation of 2x tb 303 bassline and tr 909 and tr808 drumsynth, mc 505 is sequencer-workstation with S&S sounds.
I owned an mc505 for several year and it's okay but outdated right now.

Rebirth is free btw..

Why don't you let us know what you want to do, and then we can recommend the best product for you. I don't think one of those modern day X0X Roland toys is really worth buying.

The MC boxes are excellent if you want to create pattern based music and "perform" it, live. You can certainly produce with them but I don't feel it is their strength. If you want to create some dance tracks where you can mute, effect, fade, filter or in other ways mangle sounds or parts in realtime, nothing beats grooveboxes, software included! Programs like Ableton are becoming better performance tools but the hardware interface of an MC-505 has a lot of knobs and sliders to tweak with the ability to use two or more functions per knob or slider using shift and function buttons. Try making custom controller maps with several functions per key or slider to match up with your synth and effect VSTs in your host and see how tedious it is to setup and remember.

I don't know why it's becoming en vogue to bash grooveboxes as toys. If a synth being fun makes it a toy, I have a studio full of toys.

Is it only the "ACID" 303 sound you are after?

Well, the MC505 cant really recreate that typical 303 sound, so ReBirth can do the trick.

But i use Audiorealism Bassline, its a Vst emulation of the 303, and really good one to, and with some effects u can make those oldschool psy-morphing-kinda sound.

Cheers
