i`ve got this authistic save behaviour, i almost save after every important change, only harddisc failure could make me lose some work.
(it`s almost time to backup again)
i`ll save every changed preset also, even write it down (there are no angel pictures here)
plan to do it also with all the notes i write.
i don`t like technical things realy, because there`s so much which can fail.
but to make it certain to keep your data, i`ll advise to write everything down, even make copies of it when it`s very good.
so in case of computer failure, you can go right back on track.

Sucks about the loss, but here's a handy hint that applies to ANY saving (I use theis with my Hardware smapler too).
1. Save your song / sequence / samples to FILENAME1
2. Next save do a save as to FILENAME2
next time you save save back as FILENAME1, rinse and repeat between the two files.
That way if something bad happens in a save you at least have a backup.
If your software supports autosaving turn it on and kepp at least 3 or 4 backups every 5 mins.
Not going to help you this time, but going forwards will pull your ass out of the fire is a similar thing happens..
