Anyone have any first-hand experience with doing this? I have the tax stuff somewhat figured out from reading the IRS website. What I'd like to know is, who's a good org. to donate to? I googled it, and came up with a few sites, but info from give.org made these sites seem kinda shady. Anyone know any good local charities that do it?

FYI: would have to offer free towing... something electrical's shot from the weekend's rain, so the piece of S don't even start.

Seriously, though, I know National Public Radio runs some kind of tax-deductable 'giving cars to charity' thing, but you'd have to listen in or check their site, as I'm not 100% sure as to the details.

Donate and go for the cash. The write off takes too long. I did it and I still havent gotten my money. Most places will rate the car lower than what it is, if its good they will write fair just to save themselves money. They will come to you and remove the car themselves. You shouldnt have to go to them. See how much cash they offer first, it may not be worth the trouble filing if the car is a peice of crap. If the car isnt a piece of crap then sell it or trade it in for credit towards a new car.

I donated to a place but I wouldnt recommend them. It took me months to get my forms and then they spelled my name wrong and I had to wait all over again. it was "The institute for Jewish Humanities" although I want sure who I was donating to at the time cuz I just called some random number from Craigslist and I needed to just get rid of the car to have a parking space to park my new car.
