I'm trying to understand the Cubase Mixer.

First, which is the better way to use Cubase with NI Kontakt and others?

First I tried to create an drum base with one Midi channel, but, as I can understand, i can't pan or equalize the different elements in the same midi channel (kick, snare, etc).
Only through Kontakt directly, and ignoring the cubase's mixer. Is it right?

Second, I tried to distribute the different elements in many channels (1 element per channel). I noticed that mixer now shows each midi channel VU, but the faders of this mixer have no effect with the channels, same with Pan. And I noticed that this mixer have the Midi and Vst mixer, and only Vst mixer affects the sound that i'm listening.

Ok, I read in some place about the VST Channels, but how Kontakt works with this?

I've assigned one element per zone in the Kontakt, and used 1 intrument with all samples.
For example, kick is C, snare is C#. And each key is a zone.

When you load up Kontakt in Cubase, it will also load up all the output channels (also called "VST channels") into the mixer. You'll notice various mono/stereo outputs. These are associated with the output channels you can assign elements to in Kontakt.

The reason your midi faders aren't having an effect on the audio is because they're faders for the MIDI channel and not the audio. To change volume and pan effectively, use the VST channels. I would highly recommending doing this in the Cubase mixer instead of in Kontakt. This way, you'll have a constant visual of what your levels and stuff look like instead of always having to open up Kontakt to see what's going on.

Personally, when I use Kontakt for my percussions, I put EVERYTHING on it's own element and assign everything their own MIDI channels and outputs. (Kick on MIDI ch. 1, outputs 1+2... Snare on MIDI ch. 2, output 3... etc.)

How can I configure Ableton to connect the output channels of Kontakt with each ableton's track?

To prevent loading a one kontakt plug-in into each track.
