well they still work they just bleed. They way i BELIEVE it works is that its a resistance. you have contacts between the fader and a point, which in turn relays to X from channel 1 and Y from channel 2, as this is worn down from friction, dust etc, they X and Y numbers dont sync up with each other anymore, so it bleeds. you can be all the way over to channel 1 and still hear channel 2(get a new x-fader right away) or the bleed could be subtle, like it being a bit louder than you wanted at a point near the other sides 0
ok..that may be completly off, but its what I think its right.
