What should I do?
Hello everyone, Ive gotten great advice from this forum time in and time out and I am hoping to get more of the same here, because this is a serious crossroads type question. Well Ive been messing around with trying to produce house and its sub genres alike for about a year and a half now and Ive kind of hit a crossroad. I love this music and I feel compelled to make it but I feel like maybe I dont have the talent for this, or better put maybe I am not musically inclined. I have made songs that I feel are good and some that I feel are not so good. I really want to take my music professionally but I wonder maybe this thing is not my bag, ESPECIALLY when I have a buddy of mine that is continuing to grow musically and getting very good. Although on the flip side he has acquired plug-ins and different instruments and equipment, while Im still using exsp24. It makes me look at myslef and wonder should I give up? Then I think that the only thing in my setup are some monitors and logic, nothing else, when I say nothing I mean nothing, I dont even have the adequate ram I need yet. So I ask you all is it wrong to think that I can make professional sounding music with nothing but logic from the box, should I not get so down on myself because I havent made any good tracks, because I dont have any good equipment, and is it more likely that the more additions I make to my setup, plug ins and equipment alike that I will begin to come close to what I want my music too sound like, or is it possible that I stink and that I should give up. Is it a fair assessment from what has gone on so far, will no amount of equipment help someone who just isnt good at making music, and should I cut my losses. Lastly if you all do think that I can get better, what type of books should I be reading to learn more about making music on my own. Ive tried searching for knowledge that will make me a better producer but everyhting that I read doesnt seem to help much, so I would like some recommendations there. What I really wish I could find is some literature that will help me get the ideas in my head out better. Lastly here is a track I made so u can assess a little better, once again Im not so much asking how you like the track but more on do you see potential here, that there is something I can build on
