people working for their parents

Do you have the same respect for someone who works for their parents as someone who works independently?

I'd say it depends on the situation, but no, in general I have less respect, probably wrong of me to think that way, but hey, nobodies perfect.

I don't see a reason why I should/would not have the same respect.

ok, time for a real example here.

kid my age in school, was a total ass, his step-daddy is a funeral director & he always used to worm his way into things, He never worked hard nor tried to, finished school with nothing good grade-wise. Went to higher education, flunked course, gets job with step-daddy as a funeral director. 20k car, house, everything he needed, handed on a plate to him for doing nothing.

OK i currently work for my Dad. But im 28 now & didnt start working for him until i was abt 27. Before this i worked for a handful of other companys which my experiance there has helped tons in making the move & for working for my dad. The problem with working for my dad is that since im his son he thinks he can get away with not paying me & always paying me late. Fucking sucks.

Fair enough, he got the job "without having any merit". However, if he really doesn't deserve the job, the market will force him to quit (or he'll fail miserably), making it difficult for him to keep the job.

Or else, in spite of any family ties with his employer, he's got what it takes to be there, which means there's no reason to respect him less than someone else in a similar condition.

Then his boss will go bankrupt and both of them will lose their jobs. Therefore, the market has forced them to quit.
