Read This! build me a starter dj set

Hey guys, Im kinda new here, but im really interested in getting into dj'ing.

If it's not too much bother, I love some recomendations on EVERYTHING I'd need for a set up.

So, i've been thinking:

-2 x pio cdj800mk2 (?maybe?)
-a decent mixer (which one i have no clue) what do i need?
-and what ever else it takes.
-ive already got some decent cans, sony mdr-7505. And speakers (JBL)

I'm also thinking i dont really want to go with COMPLETELY bottom of the line equipment since upgrading is rather expensive. id rather start with reasonable stuff that will be suitible as i ad to my gear.

also what kind of coin am i looking at for a nice setup?

Thank you soo much in advance.

P.S. try to keep it simple im still a noob!

This thread has been done ohhhh so fucking much. I'm not even going to tell you to search though, since we all know that never accomplishes anything.

cdj800mk2s are good enough if you plan on using the vinyl cueing function/scratching. If you do not plan to scratch or have never used vinyl in your life and wouldn't know the difference between cdj cueing and vinyl cueing, stick to cdj200s.

cdj 200's

better pitch ratio at 0.02% which means more exact beatmatching and whatnot
built-in effects like jet, zip, and wah
$200 less than the 800mk2

cdj 800's

worse pitch ratio at 0.05%
no built-in effects
vinyl mode for cueing and scratching
$200 more than the 200

as for a mixer:

depends on how much money you have left

Allen & Heath Xone 32 = leet
Vestax VMC 180
Pioneer DJM 400
Numark DXM 06/09

go check out online retail stores...they usually have starter packs with pretty good equipment. if you have a guitar center over there just recently i saw an ad with 2 cdj-200s, djm-400, and the pioneer cans for about 1500 US

whats with the flood of noobs lately? apparently more people want to be involved with the music lol...well ok your probably gonna be spending upwards of $1500 for a starter setup (depending on what kind of deals you get and what kind of equipment, plus where you live). are you looking to mix electronic music such as house and trance? or hip-hop or rock or what? different styles call for different equipment. for a starter setup i suggest the following if you would like to mix house or trance:

2x pioneer CDJ-200
1x mixer (this is more complicated because i dont know your style or if you would like multiple channels etc)
1x the headphones you have or pio hdj 1000's.

if you would like to start with vinyl then go for technics (10xx are the standard right??), this is also suitable for scratching if your genre is hip-hop. most hip hop dj's use scratch mixing as their main method of mixing as opposed to the other major mix type of "beat mixing" (which is common for trance/house djs).

i hope this info helps you startup but you need to look through all the stickies and research a lot to learn more and find out what exactly your looking for in your equipment.

the best advice when buying dj equipment is to wait until you have a)earned some more money and b) took the time reading about the stuff your buying and getting to know equipment. That being said, i do commend you for taking the time to at least do some research. However, you are missing some key elements here. First, how many channels do you want (personally i can never see myself using more than 3 at a time). Second, what is your budget. Do you want a mixer with effects? What type of music will you be spinning. All of these factors are crucial in your search for the ideal equipment.

I was in the exact same boat as you. I wanted equipment that would be above bare bones that would last for years. I got 2 pio cdj-800 mk2s with a pio djm-400. There's more in this setup than I know what to do with, between the advanced features of the cdjs and the extras on the mixer (6 built in, excellent quality, effects plus an in-loop sampler). I am completely satisfied with my setup. I suggest going to agiprodj.com and give them a call for price quotes. They had the best authorized dealer prices bar none.

PM me if you want more specifics.
