what do you think is the hardest part of production....?

what do you guys think is the bit that is hardest and most likely to make a track sound unprofessional if done to a lower standard?

getting an idea...? making the overall track?

levels/mixing? or mastering?

personally i think it is my mixing thatlets me down.. synths not loud enough, bass to quiet, kick too loud ....

i think most people would agree with me on how frustrating it is spending hours and hours tweakin to get that PERFECt sound youve been trying to produce...although the payoff is worth it...that feeling when using the right combination of hardware and/or software vsti's and you get that perfect supersaw or nice pad you need...hehe

Mastering is easy. You get someone else to do it. (I'm being brash, but technically, a good mix, is easy to master)

Mixing and being LEFT brained about your song is the hard part.

Blah blah blah.

Why am I posting this early in the morning. Time for bed.

But yea.

Making tune = fun
Making all the elements in your tune blend together = not fun

The hard part is sitting in front of your keyboard thinking "hmmm... i need to come up with the next chart-topping trance melody" But learning a bit of music theory comes in very handy there.

The easy part? mixing and mastering imo. its also one of the more fun parts in making a track i think. because every track is unique.

The fun part? SOUND DESIGN!!! woo! can i get a +1?!

The hardest part is mixing, having like 9 different versions of the song all mixed slightly differently all with different eqs and such and you've listend so many times you don't know whats best. Thois lately kick+bass combo has been easiest part for me, making goot percussion sit with it has been the hard part for me.. maybe we should collab? I use Cubase and have a Waldorf Pulse.

everything seems hard to me these days... i've been song'less for months... and i'm dying to have one...

damn... but anyway, the major problem is to blend the melody with the rest of the beat...

Production isn't a problem for me nowadays, the ideas are. Once I get the main idea down everything else comes together very quickly.

Well I think the mix is definately what when done to sub par levels will make your song sound the most unprofessional. Mastering can only do so much. As the saying goes a turd is a turd, mastering can only make it a prettier looking and polished turd.

Aside from the technicals of production, the melody line(w/lyrics if it has em) and arrangement are significantly what will make it a hit or not. If you have a killer lead melody and killer arrangement, a demo is all ya need and mix engineers can help ya with rest if it's necessary and the labels all know that.

Taking breaks.

When I start producing, I don't want to stop. So I keep at it for hours. Then the next morning I listen to what I did and it sounds god awful because I never rested my ears.
