Classic of the day: Memorexis

Human Blue - Memorexis
Released: May 2002
Label: Spiral Trax
Taken from the inside cover of the Electric Roundabout album:
A little "ferry tale"
Once upon a time, a trance artist went travelling from Sweden to Germany to perform. It was a cold, rainy, and windy night in late December and he was in a hurry to reach the destination before the night was over. As he drove off the ferry into Germany, the customs stopped him when they saw that he had spikes on his winter tyres. They wouldn't let him through since spikes are forbidden on the Germany autobahn.
They gave him three alternatives:
1) Go back to Sweden
2) Pull out the spikes manually. One by one!
3) Buy new tyres.
What did he do? The answer is found on the cover of this record..."the show must go on..."

Human Blue aka Dag Wallin from Gothenburg, Sweden is one of Swedens most popular trance producers. He was the leading trance producer on Spiral Trax when the label kicked off in 1997. His debute album I.C.E. (Spiral Trax 1999) was released during a time when most goa labels had vanished or either picked up other styles.
His return in 2002 with Electric Roundabout didn't at first catch many peoples attention. Two (one of them Memorexis) of the tracks were licensed to John 00 Flemings first Whitelabel Euphoria CD (still considored by many as one of the greatest prog. trance compilations out there). Suddenly more and more people took notice of the album and some of the amazing tunes on there. Gone were the banging goa trance. Instead Dag Wallin put together a unique mixture of deep progressive trance and melodic morning trance. The album is considored as a classic among the fans today.
Memorexis is a perfect example of the above mentioned mixture of styles. This 9 minute monster keeps on building and bulding until the twisted melodies in the end marks the climax. Memorexis was what defined the true sound of progressive psytrance.
His follow up, Electrolüx (Spiral Trax 2004), again contained some clean and bright morning tracks such as Rollercoaster and deep progressive numbers such as Atom.
Dag Wallin works as a music teacher at a high school in Gothenburg and is quite an anonymous guy. His fifth album will be released on Transient in September.
