Question Issues with a Brand New System

so I've built myself a production PC.

3GB RAM

Athlon64 3200+(2.0 GHz)

EMU 1212m souncard

Windows XP

FL6 XXL Producer Edition

obviously I spent a decent amount of money. but the trouble I'm having is I still get lag problems while running FL 6.

I can definitely see a difference in the performance within FL while playing the tracks real time. BUT I still have a very large amount of lag. people told me 3GB would be overkill, so I have to believe my settings are screwy at this point.

I know I'm not creating gargantuan tracks in FL that should eat up a system like mine...this is really bothering me.

anyone else ever resolve a problem similar to this? could it really be my processor holding me back???

*seperate issue, but similar. my production partner and I have been collaborating for a few weeks now, and we're having issues when sending zipped loop packages back and forth. (we both use FL 6)

he'll send me a fairly simple .flp yet it kills my CPU. it'll shoot up to 80 usage right off the bat when I open it up. he isn't using XXL Producer edition. could our difference in settings be causing a problem?

I create tracks that have more VSTs open in them that drain less on my CPU. it makes no sense.

Are you using ASIO soundcard drivers? Make sure you are.

ok I just switched to E-MU ASIO and it seems to have helped. at certain points in the song I still encounter lag. even with all the reverbs and fx VSTs that drain CPU turned off.

is there anything in the ASIO panel that should be configured?

I would ask him what system he uses and see if there is a differnce in systems.
He could be using sata hard drives and your using standard ide hard drives.
Also try this? Go to control panel and click on performnce and maintaince, system, advanced and where it says perfomence click on settings and then choose ajaust for best performence.
Doing that frees up memory and stuff you dont need that effects programs like Fruity.

Get a sata hard drive or a raptor and you will notice the increase in performence.

The other thing is the sample rate. My computer can only run a few vsti's with a few vsts compared to 5x that with a lower sample rate. For me its either 88 or 44. I have to raise the latency pretty high to run a few things on 88 whilst I normaly work at 44. Check that because it will make an absolutly huge difference.
