question on sampling movie scores...

I was wondering..its not illegal to make your own bootleg mix and sample like a part from a movie score is it? Mostly in all good fun, because i'm working on a theme song for the movie Kingdom of Heaven and i used a sampled piece from it. I'm just a bit paranoid..because i don't want it to get all thrown around and have a lawsuit knocking at my doors

i had this issue. get clearing before because knowing how the system works i bet you make an awsome track with the sample but without clearing it wont get released unless you take your chances and hope no one notices or tells the original copyright owner..

i mean, say you sample from 'predator'. is 20th century fox gonna take you to court over a track with a 10 second vocal sample that sold 500 copies? you never know.. will they ever hear about it/notice? you never know....

ulitmately they will only do anything if you are making a profit from their work.

Sooo much psy samples movie scores, and they've been released. How, I dont know. But if the track is good enough the label will make the effort anyway, or just say nothing.

lol i don't want it to be released..just something i feel like making and sharing with my friends. And the piece i think i sampled was a choir break on one of the tracks from the soundtrack. Couldn't i just state the original artist name and have me say i remixed it?

Technically it's illegal, but if it's only going to be heard by a few people I wouldn't wory too much.

If you intend a release of any sort then you need to approach the RIAA in the USA or the MCPS in the UK. Actually in either case I'd approach the MCPS for copyright ownership information, they're much more friendly and approachable than the RIAA.

That was you can approach and get clearance. Quite often if it for less than 3000 copies on vinyl it will be free, or very minimal. If it blows up to being a huge record they WILL want a chunk of the profits, but by virtue of you approaching them early can prevent any "Misunderstandings" ocurring and you getting your backside sured out of existance..

u gotta give it a rest with those amphetamines ure on man.
there are thousands of professional releases on cd and vinyl that have samples from almost every movie these days. the movie company doesnt care, trust me. even if u were a major trance act.
well if ure piff diddy then i d worry a little.
